Material riches are a metaphor for true power and objective wealth. The only true power and wealth are internal, but most people will settle for money, fame, or relative power, or at least for the fantasy of it. Of course, the unconscious belief is that the material wealth will somehow miraculously translate itself into ultimate happiness, but this can only be found through that which we could refer to as union, compassion, surrender, or God. It is interesting to entertain the possibility that all the corrupt, patriarchal dictators in the world are actually seeking union with God, even if they are completely unaware of it.
