Chapter 11

Daniel was ensconced in a comfortable chair in the den, watching CNN when Hannah arrived home.

“I got a call today from Jackie, our realtor,” Hannah said, as she removed her coat.

Daniel muted the television and turned toward her. “What did she say?”

“There’s a house she’d like me to look at on Saturday. I was planning to put house hunting on hold until after the New Year. By that time you will hopefully have solved Edwin Larramore’s murder. At the moment, I’m feeling uncomfortable with the idea that Jackie might find out her client’s fiancé is in charge of the investigation.”

Daniel was feeling uncomfortable as well. It was never a good thing when a personal relationship crossed the boundaries of a murder case, and he wasn’t sure he shared Hannah’s confidence in his abilities.

“I wish I could promise you it will be solved by then. We’re a bit stuck. I also wish I could discuss it with you. I miss your insights, Miss Marple.”

Hannah came over to where he was sitting, and gave him a hug. “I wish I could help, but you know about patient confidentiality. For the record, in case you have Carolyn on your suspect list, I don’t believe for a moment that she would be capable of killing anyone.”

Daniel shrugged. Obviously she had no idea that Carolyn was his number one candidate for the murderer.

“Anyone is capable of killing with the right provocation. Couldn’t you kill someone, if he was threatening Zoe’s life?”

“I don’t know, Daniel, but I sure as hell would do whatever I could to disable him. On another more cheerful topic, just in case this house turns out to be a real find, can you and Zoe come over to see it?”

“I think that’s a bad idea, Hannah. I don’t think I should meet Jackie or have anything to do with her right now. What if she turns out to be a witness?”

“What if I fall madly in love with this house?”

“Why don’t we cross that bridge if we come to it?” Daniel said.
