33 I really think she was tired of the whole charade and wanted a way out

The hunter found his prey getting more and more wary. He would try one and then another of his targets, but every time he thought he might have an opening, the predator found them protected under enclosed parking areas that he couldn't successfully penetrate without being seen. The hunter was not skilled at breaking alarm codes, so he had to rely on finding his prey in the open where they were easily accessible to him.

Today he was sitting outside of City Hall, disguised as an overweight senior adult, complete with a graying beard and a Panama hat. He saw several people he recognized, but none of them recognized him. He had become adept with the costume make-up kits he'd ordered over the internet. With these kits, he could add a scar, make his eyebrows thicker or change his complexion so much that even his closest friends couldn't recognize him.

He'd been sitting on the park bench in front of the Hall when two young ladies suddenly appeared out of nowhere and sat on the adjoining bench carrying their bags of lunch. The hunter kept his head down and closed his eyes, but he immediately recognized the Thomas twins. He also knew that most girls the age of the twins ignored the older generation as if they didn’t exist. These two were no exception to the rule as he discretely listened to the conversation between them.

The twins were excited about working with the ex-FBI agent and his girlfriend, the County Sheriff, on the investigation of the two murders and the incident involving the snakes.

“Who do you think did it?” Mindy asked her twin.

Mandy grabbed half a ham sandwich out of her bag.

“We know it wasn’t Dad, so that eliminates him. That leaves Mr. Grimes, Mr. Davis, and Mr. Brogan as the only suspects left. It has to be one of them.”

Mindy pulled half a ham sandwich out of her bag.

“I’m thinking it’s Mr. Brogan. He lives out in the country where he could get the snakes with no one knowing about them.”

Mandy took a bite.

“I don’t know. I don’t like Mr. Grimes. Remember the time he grabbed your ass at the reception for the mayor. He was also involved with Rachel at the end. I didn’t see Mr. Brogan together with Rachel that much.”

Mindy took an identical bite out of her sandwich.

“I agree. But Rachel had a way of doing things without everyone else finding out about it. Dad still doesn’t know she was sleeping with everybody at the Hall. It would kill him if he found out.”

Mandy picked a carrot out of her bag.

“You’re right. Since Mama left, I never saw him so happy as when Rachel came along. I don’t even care if she was our age. She gave Dad a reason to live again.”

Mindy grabbed an identical carrot.

“That’s why I know he couldn’t have had anything to do with her shooting. He’d give anything to get her back alive again.
