MURDER AT THE FACHWEN

A crow cawed high in the trees above the Fachwen Pool.

Off the beaten track and surrounded by trees and rolling hills, it was rarely frequented by anyone other than the occasional fisherman. This made it perfect for a wild swim in the late autumn sun.

Today, the place was deserted as the young man stepped onto the wooden pontoon, stretching his arms and back muscles in the sunlight and removing his shirt and shoes.

He didn’t see the man who had followed him. The predator, crouching low, watching his intended prey navigate the bridge to a suitable platform for the dive.

It had to be now, while his victim was removing his jeans. In a few moments, the lad would be in the lake and the chance to take him out, lost.

He lunged forward, sprinting towards the young man whose jeans were half-off.

The boy turned, eyes wide. A moment of recognition before his world turned black.

The attacker swung the hammer hard.

His victim fell onto the wooden boards of the pontoon, legs still entangled in his trousers.

The assailant pushed the young man into the water, holding him under until the bubbles ceased.
