"You called for me, Master."

In an elegant courtyard, a large man knelt and placed his fist on the ground. He had short, salt and pepper hair, a wild grey mustache, and the eyes of a wolf, while chain armor covered his wide torso. Even as his clear, deep voice rang out, his sight sought the floor in obedience.

"I did," another man responded. He was dressed in loose, black clothes, lounging on a garden chair as he parsed through a stack of documents, too busy to raise his gaze. "I have prey for you, Braum."

The kneeling man paused for a moment, and then his voice rang clear. "Very well, Master."

"His name is Long Fang." The sitting man threw a paper in the air, which then glided to land right under Braum’s face. "This is his city registration form."

"Hmm?" The burly man couldn’t contain an exclamation as he read through the form. "Master, this—"

"I know." He sighed. "He had an altercation with the guard at the gates and somehow passed this joke into official records. Genius, really. I have already made sure to punish and silence that irresponsible guard. Thoroughly."

"Then—"

"He stayed here for a few days," the man interrupted his subordinate again, "and then left Anest in the company of Philikus Mehanius, an Artificer under the employ of Lord Lorenz. The Lord, of course, is not aware of anything and will continue to be so. The orders to hunt down this man came from above, so don’t mention his name anywhere."

"Very well, Master. May I know why this man is wanted? It could help with tracking him down."

"No. All you need to know is that he has a very high bounty on his head throughout the entire West Coast. That should be enough to do your job," replied the Master. "Besides what I already mentioned, all we know is that he was headed to Anatolia. Additionally, before leaving Anest, that Artificer, Philikus, made a staggering number of inquiries into blue-veined ore—a decorative mineral."

"Understood, Master," the subordinate replied.

"That is all, Braum. You are dismissed."

The sitting man, who still hadn’t raised his gaze once, lazily waved a hand to send Braum away. The man stood to leave, but his master’s words rang once more before he could exit the courtyard.

"This mission is of utmost importance, Braum. Kill that man at first sight. And if you happen to fail," the master’s voice chilled, "then kill yourself."

Braum stood still for a moment, facing away, and then his voice cut through the silence without any hesitation.

"Yes, Master."
