The very second Devon was certain that the glue had dried on his project, and he could assemble it, he texted Markus about bringing it over. A cooler person who was better at this gifting thing might have waited another week for Christmas Eve, at least. But he couldn't take the tension a minute longer. And besides, if the gift turned out to be terrible, he should know now, so he could try this again. He didn't want to ruin their first Christmas.

Markus agreed, and Devon left all his supplies scattered across his apartment to hustle over to their place. Devon thought he was keeping fairly calm. But by the time he arrived, he was shaking so bad that Markus frowned, immediately taking his hand and ushering him over to the couch for cuddles.

"Whatever you've done for me, I'm sure it's heartfelt and beautiful, and is bound to make me cry," Markus assured them.

"It's... heartfelt," Devon said. "But that doesn't mean it doesn't suck. Here."

With an eyeroll, Markus took the bag he thrust at him and set it down right next to them on the couch.

"Please take a breath for me, first," Markus said, gently.

"Oh, for fuck's sake, fine," Devon muttered, making an effort to draw a deep breath, and then another. Even he had to admit that it was calming.

"I'm so pleased that it means this much to you," Markus said, patting his hand. "But it's also really important to me that you don't put painful stress on yourself. I don't want that."

"I just want to get it right," Devon whispered.

"It being this important to you is getting it right," Markus said. "I wanted to know you cared. And I do know that."

Devon nodded, and squeezed Markus's hands in his.

When Markus was satisfied, they finally reached for the bag, and Devon's heart rate spiked again... probably only a reasonable amount this time, though he couldn't be sure. Is it appropriate to feel terror at giving Christmas gifts?

Markus reached into the puff of tissue paper (The paper looks dry, that's a good sign) and pulled out Devon's project. They gasped, but Devon had no idea what that meant yet.

It was a snowglobe -- homemade, of course, with a lot of help from several videos Devon found. The jar was a satisfyingly round shape that Devon located through an odd few trips to grocery stores and produce stands, searching the aisles for interesting jars. The jar lid was now the bottom of the globe, holding three small figures of polymer clay inside. Devon had very carefully crafted a tiny Starlord, with one ear up and one ear flopped, the way he looked when he loafed around the house. A miniature version of Sam sat on Starlord's back, and nestled into Starlord's side was Misty, up on her hind legs, nose alert, as though looking for a way out, or a yogurt drop. Devon had taken quite a few surreptitious pictures of all three of them, to try and sculpt them as accurately as possible.
