CHAPTER EIGHT
REGINALD SPENT HALF the night at the helm of the ship. They were too far out and not close enough to any safe harbors to seek shelter. Instead, he kept the bow pointed up to the waves and prayed.
It had been a long time since he’d talked with God. He knew why. Part of him had wished over the last thirteen years that he had never been pulled from that water. In the back of his mind he’d always wondered if he was supposed to drown that day.
His life had little meaning, even after he learned his identity. His siblings had moved on, started families of their own. It wasn’t that he wasn’t happy for them. He was. But where did he fit? He no longer belonged in this world, he had no purpose and no real worth.
Until now. He could be the man on whom Rihanna and Rosella depended. Build a family of his own.
In the darkest part of the night, the rain let up. He was soaked through to the bone and the waves still pitched, but Reg knew they’d weathered the worst of it. Just before the sun crested the sky, the seas calmed somewhat, and Reginald set a course for a nearby cove. They’d anchor for a few hours and allow the crew to rest after battling through the night.
Turning the wheel over to the first mate, Reg headed below deck, wanting to see Rihanna almost more than he wanted to breathe.
As he opened the door, he scanned the room and panic clogged his throat. They weren’t there. As he swept his gaze across the room again, he caught sight of a lady’s boot.
Closing the door, he crossed the room to find Rihanna and Rosella tucked between the wall and the bed, sound asleep. Bending down, he grabbed Rosella under the arms and lifted her from Rihanna. The girl never woke but Rihanna’s eyes popped open. “I’ll be right back,” he whispered and then turned with Rosella in his arms.
Carrying her to her own room, he tucked her in her bunk.
This time, when he opened his door, Rihanna stood in the middle of the room, hugging herself. The moment she saw him, she lifted her hands to him and took a step toward him.
He didn’t hesitate. Striding to her, he pulled her against his body, wrapping her in his embrace.
Without thought, his lips found hers and they clung together. Reginald had kissed a fair number of women, but none had been like this. There were no barriers between them as if Rihanna had opened herself completely to him. She tilted her chin to give him more access, her tongue mingling with his while her body pressed fully against his.
Reg skimmed his hand up her back and settled his fingers in her silky hair, cradling her head in his palm.
She moaned softly against his lips, her pelvis angling toward his.
His manhood roared at the touch and he pulled back to look down at her. Her eyes were glassy, her lips pouty, her cheeks flushed.
