ACTIVIST SLAIN

-by Rachel Ivins

People arriving at the Anita Jones Youth Recreation Center in Back Bay Boston for a MAPs Anonymous meeting discovered something horrendous instead.

They found the body of coordinator Sharla Blount. Her corpse was arranged spread-eagled inside a pentagram drawn in chalk on the floor. The pentagram was in the middle of the chair circle where MAPs usually meet to find strength in each other after enduring life in a cruel world.

What are MAPs? Quite simply, they are minor-attracted people. People with an alternative sexual orientation who are treated like animals by extremists who don't want or care to understand their plight.

MAPs Anonymous is a group that meets once a week with the blessing of the staff at the recreation center. Many of Boston's most powerful politicians have endorsed the group, and some like district attorney Hayden Smith, have even spoken to the group and given them their explicit support.

In fact, it is Smith's bail reform initiative that strives to help these people escape a lengthy jail sentence so they can seek counseling on the outside. Many attendees have praised the group for helping them overcome the struggles imposed on them by an uncaring public.

This brazen murder is almost certainly linked to the murders of journalists who have also covered the plight of MAPs. It is obvious to me and should be obvious to the police that the perpetrator is a serial killer who is on a very short timer.

The detectives on the scene declined to comment. We have yet to hear anything from higher up the chain of command except rumors that if this is a serial killer, it will become a matter for the FBI.

As the primary voice of the marginalized and the downtrodden, I fear that I'm on this killer's list and probably not very far from the top. It's only a matter of time until they come for me. But I will not be easy prey for them.

It is society's task to protect all marginalized people. To form a circle around them and keep the insane mobs from killing them. Wake up, people! Wake up and do your duty. If you see anything suspicious, report it to the police.

Keep a close eye on your neighbors. Report them for spreading hate or misinformation because they are the ones who drive the egos of killers like this.

If you don't do everything you can to help, the blood of these victims is on your hands.
