23. Stoking the Three Burners: Pressing Palms to Heaven
Start in Horse Stance and turn the palms up. (a)
Draw the palms straight up along the center of the body while slowly inhaling. (b)
Turn the palms out, up, and around at face level, then continue raising them toward the sky as you continue to inhale slowly. (c)
Continue to raise the palms toward the sky as you inhale. (d)
Press the palms to Heaven as you finish the inhalation. (e)
Without pause, start exhaling and relax the shoulders as you move the hands out and down in a wide circle. (f)
Continue slowly moving the hands down in a wide circle as you exhale. (g)
When the hands reach hip level, turn the palms inward and bring the hands together in front as the exhalation ends. (h)
Turns the palms up and begin the next breath. (i)
Keep the head straight and facing forward and the neck aligned with the spine throughout the movement. After pressing the palms to Heaven at the end of the inhalation, it’s important to relax and lower the shoulders as the arms begin their downward movement. Synchronizing the breath with body movement in this form opens the Three Burners (san jiao) circuit and runs energy through those channels. To further enhance the effects, gently lift the anus on the inhalation and relax it on the exhalation.
