“Sorry, man,” Martin said as he handed the cash over. “Hard times, you know. Today sucked even before she maced me.” He opened the bag and sprinkled a thin line of the powder onto the table in front of him. “Nis, you got a knife?”

Nisa licked her finger and leaned over his shoulder to pick up a bit of powder on her fingertip. “Am I sucking cock for five dollars in the men’s bathroom at Taco Bell?”

“No,” Martin responded, his eyes fixed on the small pile of cocaine.

“Then why do you think I’m your mother?” She raised her hand to her face, snorted it in one quick sniff, and walked out of the room.

“Here.” Wilson tore his eyes from Nisa’s retreating form and handed back one of the dollar bills Martin had given him. Martin meticulously straightened it out, folding it and unfolding it a few times, then used the edge of it to slowly arrange the powder into a line.

Stephen turned and gave Wilson a pointed look.

Wilson rolled his eyes. “This is Stephen and Doug."

“We work for a magazine.” Stephen paused, awaiting a reply, but Martin didn’t look up from the table. “And we’re interested in your employer for...well, various reasons. You see, the purpose of journalism is not only to inform the public, but also to be the advocate of those who are voiceless. Many groups of people are silenced and oppressed, and currently – ”.

Martin interrupted by putting his head down and loudly snorting the line.

“Um,” Stephen continued. “We just want to ask you a few questions.”

“And remember that you’re under oath,” Doug added.

Stephen automatically reached over and smacked him.

“Ow.” Doug rubbed his upper arm. “You hit hard for someone who’s gay.”

Martin rubbed his nose and looked up at Wilson. “Why did you bring gay cops to my house?”

“They’re not cops,” Wilson assured him. “Just idiots.”

Stephen shot him a frown before turning back to Martin. “What has your experience been with GlobalTech’s health insurance provider?”

Martin began creating another line of cocaine on the table. “Good,” he muttered.

“It’s okay; you can tell us,” Doug said. “It was an accident, right? You didn’t mean to hurt nobody. Let it out; let it all out.”

Martin glanced up from his work. “Huh?”

Stephen nudged Doug and motioned for him to be quiet.

“Have they ever denied a claim of yours?” Stephen asked.

“I dunno.”

“Do they approve most of your claims?”

Martin shrugged. “Maybe.”

Stephen sighed and put his notepad down. “Can you tell me anything at all about them?”

Martin snorted his second line and immediately began preparing another.

“Do you even know the name of the company?”

“Option Health and Life,” Nisa said as she reentered with a fresh cup of tea in her hands.

“You work for GlobalTech?” Stephen asked.

Nisa stopped to take another pinch of the cocaine. “Yeah.”

“As what?”

“As an Assistant None of Your Fucking Business.”

“Do you know where Option is located?”

Nisa sniffed up the coke. “Ninth floor.”

“They’re in the GlobalTech building?” Stephen asked, his voice rising with interest. “This is exactly what I suspected,” he said to Doug.
