Everyone Has Spiritual Gifts
As an individual, personalized expression of God, you have been Divinely created with special gifts unique to you. It’s easy for those with obvious gifts to understand this, for we all melt when hearing that special singer, are enamored with those who can move their bodies in unique ways to dance or be athletic, and feel great artists are special to be able to convert third-dimension beauty into two-dimension expressions. But I’ll be the first to admit that most of us have no idea what our special talents are, mainly because we tend to compare ourselves to others.
I have a good friend who has over the years constantly said that she has no special talents. She will describe her brother’s musical ability, her mother’s unique methods for making ordinary food taste quite delicious, and her father’s mechanical ability. Yet, she seems to be unaware that her own special gift is to be able to see the good in everyone. That’s quite a special talent, yet she does not recognize it in herself.
Like my friend, most of us don’t recognize our own talents. We think they should be grandiose, should be outstanding, or should cause some sort of gain for ourselves or others, that it should benefit us monetarily, make us famous, or perhaps be obviously life-changing for other people. That can be the case, but it more often than not is not the case. Talents do not have to be forthright, but instead can often be quiet, seemingly insignificant. Yet, they are anything but insignificant! What is a talent or distinctive gift, after all, but a way Soul expresses itself as you in special ways? That’s the best way to understand unique talents—as a form of Soul’s special ways of self-expression.
These forms of Soul expressions are so numerous, it would be impossible to list them all. Yet, I’ll list some of them here, so you will more readily understand what I am explaining. For instance, some people have the ability to organize, compartmentalize, or efficiently manage the environment around them. Others have a unique ability to be able to relate to people well or have an unusual ability to recognize when others need help. Some people do an outstanding job of managing money, while others have the blessings of working with children. Many are aware of their gifts of intuition, some are in tune with nature, some are more aware of the earth and the environment. Some of us have gifts of speaking in thoughtful ways, while others of us don’t say one thing unless they feel a deep need. We have people who are gifted writers and can tell stories, create poems, or even explain things well on paper. While some are creative, others are analytical. Some have gifts relating to mathematical abilities, others English or science. My point is that each and every one of us has a gift of some sort . Many have more than one gift, of course.
