Chapter 8: Certifications for Security Investigation
“Never theorize before you have data. Invariably, you end up twisting facts to suit theories instead of theories to suit facts.”
─ Sherlock Holmes
Investigation takes training and practice. Even if you are a former law enforcement officer, which is the case with many security practitioners in the business world, investigation is not easy as investigations in the business context can vary greatly from what police encounter.
The setting is different, the authority granted to you is different, the subject is different, and the expectation for you is not the same. For new security professionals, investigation can sound exciting but getting the right outcome requires diligent work.
