On the way back to Jimmy’s security office, the four friends crossed through the front lobby. In the center of the room, standing near the wide, gleaming white front desk, they spotted Dr. Heinfeld. She wasn’t alone.

Standing beside the head archivist was a man with a long, lean face and thin, black hair combed straight back from his forehead. He was quite a bit taller than Dr. Heinfeld, but a little bit hunched over, and he wasn’t dressed like the people she usually talked to. Most of them wore nice suits. This man had on jeans and a denim shirt. His hands were dirty, like he’d just been working on a car.

“Who is that man?” Clementine asked, looking curious.
