Pluto and Charon

Pluto's surface is remarkably varied. It features dramatic changes in both brightness and color, with black, white, and orange the most pronounced. Resembling a marble, Pluto’s color mixture suggests a higher degree of complexity compared to Mercury’s tendency to see things in black and white. One fourth of Pluto’s surface is in permanent daylight, while another fourth is in permanent darkness. In between, half of the planet is a mix of the two extremes.

Pluto’s eccentric orbit takes it closer to the Sun than Neptune for part of its cycle, which illustrates how our shadow emerges in our dreams, both sleeping and waking. The psychological is a part of the transcendent. The last time Pluto was closer than Neptune was between February 7, 1979 and February 11, 1999. This time frame brought a significant emphasis on Pluto in our collective consciousness (AIDS, sex abuse scandals, Cold War, nuclear issues, pornography, etc.), as well as major works on Pluto in the field of astrology.
