Riffs

Riffs are usually short groups of notes played repeatedly throughout a song. Two famous examples are the introduction to “Satisfaction” by the Rolling Stones or “Beat It” by Michael Jackson. Riffs can include or be made up entirely of chords, but usually they are single notes played one after another. Riffs are often the part of the song that you hum to yourself after hearing it on the radio, which makes them fun to learn on guitar because they are so recognizable.

The third musical figure is a guitar solo.
