“TELL ME where you are, because clearly it is not here.”
Tyler grinned at his mom, who’d joined him on the couch. He’d been swiping through the pictures of Oliver and his airport adventures. Every so often he had turned to say something to Aaron, only to find, of course, that Aaron wasn’t there. How had the guy made such an impression on him so quickly? “What, you mean you’re paying rapt attention to Uncle Nick and his Santa routine?”
The kids in the family were eagerly gathered around said uncle, dressed in a red velvet Santa suit that was at least thirty years old. Tyler was pretty sure it was the same one from when he was little, and it was only now that Uncle Nick’s beard finally matched the wig.
“No, but I was chatting with your Aunt Lisa. You’re sitting here alone.”
It had been a whirlwind of a trip, making it to the airport in time for his flight. Then his dad had picked him up, only to drive straight to his aunt’s for the Christmas Eve dinner. From the moment he stepped through the door, the smells of the holiday washed over him—the rich tang of the food, the pine of the live tree, and the cinnamon from the pies. He’d chatted happily with his family during the meal and dessert, but once the gifts had started being given out, Tyler found he really needed a second to himself.
Mostly he’d been debating on whether or not he should e-mail Aaron. At least he’d had that info. Stupidly, he’d forgotten to get a phone number or ask if Aaron was okay with texting. Maybe that would be less formal. But committing to an e-mail seemed like he was trying too hard. Now, granted, that was the only info Tyler had, but….
“Did you ever have an immediate connection with a person?” he found himself asking before he could take back the words.
“Met a hot guy on the plane?”
“Airport, actually.” Tyler could feel his cheeks heat. There was no reason to go into details, to talk about how he knew how Aaron flushed when he came, how he tasted, and the incoherent sounds he made when he was turned on. But he kinda wanted to talk about Oliver. “There was this teddy bear that a little girl left behind.” He grinned at the confused expression on his mother’s face. “I’d brought it to Lost and Found. He was working the desk, and to make a long story very short, we ended up taking the bear on some adventures.”
He flipped through the pictures on his phone, sorry that he didn’t actually manage to capture any photos of Aaron. It made the entire night seem surreal, like he’d dreamed it all. Flipping through the album now, he could almost taste the mint that would forever remind him of kissing Aaron in the airport.
Mom giggled at the pictures. “Well, sometimes love is finding someone to be silly with.”
“Mom, I just met the guy.”
“Believe me, I’m not trying to get you married.
