I spend the evening with my friends, but the entire time I’m thinking about the woman who answered the phone. She sounded smug. She sounded comfortable, too comfortable. I wish that I could talk to Zeph and find out the truth, but at the same time, I don’t think that I could stomach hearing his voice right now.

I’m not sure if I really want the truth. What happens when it’s not what I want to hear. What happens when he lies to me, or tells me that he was with her. What do I do then?

I’m listening to everyone, answering questions when I need to, but I’m not really there. I’m thinking about Zeph, about the woman, and wondering why I’ve made such a huge mistake. I could have just never committed to him. I could have done nothing and let him go on his way. I could have left myself, but I didn’t.

I listened to my stupid heart.

At least I think that it was my heart. Maybe it was just my lust-filled body, because I do so love how this man makes me feel when we’re together. The way he touches me, the way that he looks into my eyes as if I’m the only woman on this earth. It’s all magical at the same time, it’s all a lie.

When the evening is over, when I’ve eaten the amazing chocolate chocolate cake, and not thoroughly enjoyed it the way that I anticipated, I make my way to bed.

Thankfully, nobody asks me any questions or tries to stop me. Nobody tries to cheer me up and maybe that’s because Rebecca already told them everything, so they knew to stay away. I’m not sure, and it doesn’t really matter. I just want to sleep.

Locking myself in my bedroom, I walk over to the bed and start to pull the sheets back when I see my phone on the bed. Biting my bottom lip, I reach for the device and check my notifications.

There is a new text.

Naturally, it’s from him.

ZEPH: Thinking of you. Call me ASAP. Need to hear your voice.
