They soon called me and took me to a room where a man was waiting for me, who turned out to be a representative of the Spanish Embassy. I don't know why, but that made me feel a lot better. I could finally explain everything to someone and get out of this mess. He introduced himself as Andres Carvajal. He told me he wasn't a lawyer; he was a mere adviser. He asked me to tell him what had happened, and I did. When I was done, he stared at me for a few seconds, sighed and started talking.

“Look, David, I've listened to your story carefully, I’ve read the charges, I have seen the evidence ... I don't know you at all and I'm nobody to question what you’ve told me, but I want to be honest. Even assuming everything you say is true, things look really bad,” he said, wiggling his head. “To put it mild. You’ve been caught with a large quantity of drugs, there's no evidence to support your story...”

“I tell you that in Singapore my friends will confirm what I have said!”

“Try to put yourself for a moment on the side of the justice of this country. With what's there, what are the options? It's a sentence for sure.”

“It is a possibility. The laws consider the death penalty for the amount you had in your suitcase. I tell you I'm not a lawyer, but it's not the first case among Spaniards, let alone foreigners.” He looked at me with disapproval. “Sentences and other cases on this subject show that if you plead guilty, whether you are guilty or not, and I tell you that is not what I believe, you will not be sentenced to death. They'll definitely change it to prison to life.
