“Absolutely not.”

Maleiha bit her bottom lip as she watched her boyfriend pace the bedroom. She had shown him the note that had been slipped into her scrub’s pocket and told him that maybe her going would yield them some valuable information.

“I don’t think he’s going to hurt me. He had the opportunity to do that at the hospital.”

“No, he didn’t. There are cameras all over that hospital. He’d dumb, but he isn’t stupid,” Grae spoke.

“Grae.”

“And he wants you to come alone.”

“Well, clearly, I’m not going to do that. You’ll come with me.”

“Beauty, no. I won’t put you in danger like that. Not again. I told you I wouldn’t do it if I could help it, and I definitely can with this.” He walked up to her and cupped either side of her face. “Just, let me come up with something else. A better way.”

Maleiha found herself nodding, and he leaned in and kissed her. When he released her face, she made her way towards the bathroom to fill the tub and relax in a bubble bath. She had heard what Grae said, she did, but she didn’t know how long it would take him to figure out how to get whatever information Zander was willing to give her less than seven hours from now.

Deciding that she wouldn’t worry about it, she undressed, stepping into the tub when it was full. Her body needed relaxation. She would broach the idea with him again later on. She was aware that his answer would probably be the same. But she figured if he had time to think about it, he would see that this, while a bit more dangerous, was the fastest way.

There was something that told her Zander wouldn’t hurt her. That he wasn’t lying to her, to them, and really did want to get rid of Pruitt. She just didn’t know why. Maybe, if she were able to go speak with him, as a stipulation, she would require that he tell her exactly why. Give her something, them something, to cause them to believe him. If only mildly.

Once Maleiha was finished with her bath, she got out, wrapping a towel around her waist. She stepped out into the bedroom, expecting to find Grae there or to find it empty. What she had not expected was for Nyela to be sitting in there in one of the armchairs.

“Hey,” Maleiha greeted. “What’s up?”

She was hoping the older woman was not coming to ask for help with Sutton because she was going to give her the same answer that she’d given Larkin and Korrae.

“I overheard you and Grae talking,” Nyela told her. Maleiha stayed quiet. She knew Nyela would continue. “I think you should go. It would put us one step closer.”

Maleiha sighed. “Trust me, I know, but Grae doesn’t want me to go.”

“You know he isn’t your Daddy, correct?” Maleiha turned and smirked at the other woman for her comment. “At least not in that way.” Nyela tacked on.

“I know, but he’s just trying to make sure I'm safe.
