PRINCIPLES TO TAKE AWAY

1. The principle that your will (volition) controls your life. Many people in life don’t rise to the challenges because they think that they can’t do it. Others seem to always surpass their goals, because of their indomitable will, “they can do what they set their minds to do.” Every child should be taught the proper exercise of willpower. When we allow children to surrender to their selfish desires, weariness, or give into inconveniences, they live their whole life at a low level. But when we teach children to believe in themselves, they can live beyond their abilities.

2. The principle of pride in a family name. My mother taught me, “You are a Towns, you can do anything.” So naturally I taught the same principle to my children. “Be proud of the family name.” I did not see all the things that Debbie did in Mexico, but if I had been there, I would have been proud of her; because she exhibited pride in the Towns’ family name.

3. The principle that different abilities contribute to soul winning. Many people think that God cannot use them in evangelism to win other people to Christ, because they are not good salesmen. But people with different talents can be used in evangelism when they faithfully exercise the gifts God has given to them. Those who pass out invitations to gather a crowd to a Gospel service are just as vital in soul winning as the Gospel preacher who presents the message. Those who construct the church building are just as vital as those who sing in the building. Debbie learned to give God what she had. While she spent most of her time “two-piling concrete” and building a pew, she also prayed in the bus and felt just as responsible for winning people to Jesus Christ as the other youth who sang and were the soul winners at the altar.
