Colin has put me in an awkward position. Knowing a little about their history, I know for a fact he was trying to make her jealous. And after a brief discussion, while Natalie looked around, I gave him what-for while he handed me another scone.

The guy doesn’t fight fair. Wiping my mouth, I hurry over to where Natalie is to give her a quick tour of the office.

“Your office will be right over there.” I point as I lead the way. “Mr. Hampton apologizes for it being smaller than what you are probably used to in New York, but given you are working onsite, I’m sure you can overlook it.”

Natalie looks around then back at me. I’m not sure what she is thinking, but I just smile, nod and move on.

“Mr. Hampton is right next door and has an open door policy. Any time his door is open, feel free to go right on in. No meeting required. When his door is shut, come to me and I’ll let you know when he will be available next.” I fill her in on the directions he gave me earlier. Still uncertain if that is what he really wants.

“Well, well, well…Ms. Russo, I’m glad you could finally grace us with your presence.” Ferris has appeared in his doorway, looking beautifully intimidating.

“Mr. Hampton, my apologies…” Natalie looks unsure of what to say.

“Ferris…” I plead. Shit! “I mean, Mr. Hampton. It’s my fault. I took her on the tour of the office first. I got my times confused and forgot you had a mid-morning meeting in 10 minutes.”

Ferris shuts me down, looks at me with pity then continues, owning the conversation.

“Daisy, not a problem, I wanted to make sure Ms. Russo feels at home at Hampton Enterprises and rescheduled my meeting for later this afternoon.” He says my name forgoing all formalities we discussed early.

What is he doing?

Ferris walks over to Natalie, shaking her hand longer than necessary. I’m not sure why I’m still standing there, but I am. Watching him shake her hand, touching her lower back, guiding her into his office.

I’m not sure what I’m feeling, but it feels as if the green-eyed monster is rearing its ugly head.

Just as I’m about to turn around, I see Ferris standing at the door looking at me. I look back at him, confused.

“Daisy, hold all calls.” He smirks as he shuts the door.

“What was that?”

“What was what?” Ben, our lead project manager, comes around the corner.

“Oh, nothing.”

“Hey, you have a little something on your lip.” He brushes his own lip trying to show me where it’s at.

“Are you joking?” I rush over to the hallway mirror.

Seriously? I reach up to wipe off the small speck of blueberry. UGH!
