TWELVE

It’s the day before the Talent Quest and we’re set. I’m nervous, but my pop says that’s because I care. I never understand when old people say, ‘Breathe.’ It’s like, obviously, otherwise I’ll die. But I think they mean ‘focus on your breathing’ to relax.

I take ten deep breaths and walk out for our FINAL rehearsal.

Trixie is giving Addison and Macey notes about how to bring Hansel and Gretel to life. Addison is really listening, and Macey is looking at a flower. Luke is adjusting the confetti cannons, making sure they go off at the right time. Alex is saying his lines in different accents and voices to make sure he is happy with the voice he chose. Hannah is hand stitching Alex’s witch outfit to make room for his tail.

I’m standing alone, taking it all in. This is the best group of people in the world.
