Chapter 15 - Gianna

Maxim’s hand held mine tighter as we entered the club. He’d noticed how sweaty my hand was.

The flickering neon light and blaring music reminded me of New York and all the dirty work I’d done for my papa. Some nights, I had to seduce his enemies and lure them out to where they’d meet their painful deaths.

Other nights, I had to steal a phone and hack into it. One time, I’d almost been caught and killed by one of the men I needed to plant a device on his phone. Luckily, I’d brought a Taser with me.

After that, my papa concluded I was useless and began to have his men follow me. It wasn’t all bad, though, because I’d also met Maxim on one such night. Regardless of how things turned out, I’d gotten my sons out of it. I didn’t regret a thing.

My eyes traveled from the dancefloor to the DJ in a corner, then the hallway at the far end and the red door that was out of bounds. Maxim and his brothers were definitely meeting there.

Maxim’s phone buzzed with a message. “It’s Sergey, he wants to meet privately first. Will you be fine on your own for a moment?”

My stomach rumbled with unease, but I couldn’t tell him that. If Sergey wanted to see him first, then it was for something important. “I’m not a kid, Maxim. Of course, I’ll be fine.”

He swiped his tongue over his lips, clearly conflicted. He brought his phone to his face and dialed a number. “Where are you?”

The person at the other end of the line spoke, and he listened.

“Get your ass over here and make sure no one as much as lays a finger on Gianna,” he ordered. He wasn’t the Maxim who’d held me as I cried a few hours ago, he looked terrifying. “You’re dead if anything happens to her.”

After he hung up, I tugged his arm to pull his attention. “You didn’t need to do that. I told you I was fine.”

To be quite honest, I preferred to be on my own than to have Damien here with me. We hadn’t seen each other since the night I attacked the warehouse. Knowing how loyal most of the soldiers were, I knew he’d hate me for what I did.

“With all that’s happening, I can’t leave you on your own for long.” He angled towards me and kissed me on the lip. “Damien will be here in a few minutes. Order whatever drink you want.”

I smiled at him as he walked towards the red door. I waited until he pushed it open and walked inside, then walked to the front bar and nestled on a chair.

I hailed the bartender, and a handsome Russian guy with blue eyes and golden hair walked in my direction. “Good evening, beautiful lady.”

His Russian accent was almost as thick as the Vadim brother. “Good evening, I’d like a martini.”

“I’ll get that ready.” He grabbed a glass and bottles of different whiskey brands.
