Chapter Fourteen

Haelynn

When Monday rolls around, it’s like I’m still walking around in a daze, feeling the effects of my night with Corbin. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since he left early before Huxton woke up.

I grip the door handle to the studio, pausing to let out a heavy breath, trying to shake myself from my thoughts before I head inside. If Makenna picks up on something being amiss, she’ll ask questions I’m not sure I’m ready to answer just yet.

Music blares throughout the studio when I walk in. I can only guess she showed up here early this morning to get some editing done. She tends to crank her music up when she’s trying to focus. We’ve been busy recently with sessions and she warned me she’d be pulling some crazy hours to get caught up.

“Haelynn? Is that you?” she shouts from the back before the music cuts off.

“Yeah, it’s me.”

I drop my purse on my desk, falling into the chair while I wait for my computer to begin booting up.

“Oh my God, I have something to tell you. I’ve been watching the clock waiting for you to get here.”

She comes racing out of the room, her heels clicking on the floor.

“What’s going on? Is everything okay?”

“It’s more than okay. It’s amazing! I need to show you this.”

She looks at my computer screen, pausing when she sees it loading before reaching into her pocket to pull out her phone. Her fingers fly over the screen before she shoves it in my face, urging me to look.

“What am I looking at exactly?” My brows furrow, scrolling through a bunch of comments before my eyes land on photos of me with Corbin from our stranger shoot.

My mouth drops open. “Are these the photos?”

“Yes, scroll down. Look at all the comments and shares. You’re frickin’ viral, Haelynn! People all over the world are gushing over you and Corbin in these pictures. It’s up to almost a half a million likes and thousands of shares. Can you believe it?”

Am I surprised people are seeing the talent Makenna has behind the lens? Not at all. Am I shocked by the response to the photos of me and Corbin? Abso-frickin-lutely.

I never thought of myself as photogenic, so I couldn’t believe it when she suggested doing the shoot with me, of all people.

It wasn’t until I scrolled through the pictures and I got chills. There were endless comments from people who all seem to think the same thing I have from the moment I met Corbin.

The connection I’ve felt when I’m near him is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced in my life. It’s hard to put into words how I feel and to see people pick up on it through our pictures has tears pricking my eyes.

“Wow, this is amazing. I’m so happy for you!” I gush, shaking my head in amazement when I pass the phone back to her.

“Right! It’s unreal. Not to mention, I’ve had countless messages and emails from people, from other states and cities around Iowa, who want to schedule a session with me.
