CHAPTER 17

ESSIE

The men in the room, Kazimir and another man that I don’t recognize, stand up from the sofa and walk away, both of them waving toward me as they make their way toward the front door. I stay frozen in my spot as they leave the house.

“Essie, your decision has been made, I presume?” Arseny asks.

I hum, inhaling a deep breath, holding it, then letting it out slowly before I make my descent down the staircase. The entire way down, I can’t take my eyes off of him. Arseny looks amazing in a crisp charcoal suit with a black shirt and a charcoal tie. It’s gorgeous, just like him.

Once I’m in front of him, in the living room, I watch as he stands, grabbing something off of the coffee table when he does. Flicking my gaze to the item, I notice that it’s a stack of papers.

“Contract,” he simply states, thrusting the papers at me.

Taking them in my hands, I start to read through them, but my knees become weak the more of the contract that I read. My eyes start to tear up when I realize that it’s everything I asked him for, and everything that he offered. Everything. It’s the option to terminate the marriage, it’s the separate bank account. It’s everything.

Then, as I read farther down into the meat of the document, I see the bullet point about children.

Lifting my eyes, I look at him. “Shared custody if I ever do decide to leave and we have children,” I whisper.
