The Cowboy’s Seamstress

Chapter 1

I run the fabric through my fingers, as I try to find the tear I’m meant to be fixing. It’s soft and silky, which means my job, is going to be harder. It was pretty though, as its colouring mimicked a summer’s day sky. I let the needle sweep into the fabric and pull it together again. There was something I had always found soothing about sewing. I think it’s because I used to do it with my grandmother, before she passed away.

I let my thoughts wander to the woman who had raised me. She had been a strong and fiercely independent woman, but she had a soft heart and she had always made sure that I had I felt loved and supported in when I was growing up. She was the one who had taught me to sew, along with baking and knitting, and all the other grandmother types’ things that you might expect.

I could feel my lips curling into a smile, as I thought back to the sunny afternoons we had spent in the garden talking about nothing in particular and sewing together. It wasn’t until I heard the jingle of the shop bell that I was pulled from the happy place, which was my memory. I lifted my head quickly and looked through the small crack in the door, which lead to the shop floor.

I could hear the solid footsteps of what I assumed were a man, and I stood up quickly to see what they might need. When I pushed the door open it creaked loudly and I watched, as an impossibly handsome man turned around to face the noise I had just made. I could feel my cheeks blush, as his eyes explored my face.

“Can I help you?” I asked quietly, as I walked further into the room and looked down at the floor. His eyes were an electric blue and so intense that I couldn’t help, but avoid them.

“Do you do clothes repairs?” The man asked in a cool southern accent, which told me that he wasn’t from around these parts.

“That’s all we do.” I said, as I smiled at him from across the counter. I let my eyes lift up from the floor, so that they could really take in the person standing before them. He was the perfect mixture of tall and toned. His tanned skinned looked weathered, but in a rugged type of way. I could smell a mixture of sweat and musk, which filled the air and my brain with dizzying thoughts. I didn’t let my eyes find their way to his face. I didn’t want to blush again; instead, I let them rest at their normal level, which was his chest.

“Well then I guess that I’m in the right place. Huh, darling?” He said, as he leant on the counter and brought his face to my eye level. I could feel my cheeks started to redden again, but I tried to push the hot flushing feeling back.
