CHAPTER 10
DISCOVERY
âGenius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.â
â Thomas Edison
Everything God gives is always a raw material. You need to discover, exploit and develop it for human use.
Success is not in the land but in the mind.
This law is divided into two phases:
(A) DISCOVERY OF RAW MATERIALS
This phase of discovery has to do with finding something that was hidden or that people did not know before. It may be something hidden in the land or on the surface of the earth. It may be something seen by everybody but which may appear not useful to mankind.
Discovery of raw materials is transforming what people see as being useless into useful and indispensable products. To do this, you need to be mentally sound because it requires extraordinary reasoning. For instance, crude oil was discovered as a natural gift to mankind, but it was the reasoning of some people that made it possible for the crude oil to be split into several important by-products like Gasoline (petrol), paraffin (kerosene), Diesel, Gas, Grease, etc.
The joy of this phase of discovery is that you can still discover another product from an already discovered product. Isnât this interesting? Can you imagine that plastic products are made from petroleum? You doubt this? You need to believe it. Plastic is from petroleum.
Discovery makes you become a problem solver. It makes you give a solution to what others see as a problem. It can be a slight change of peopleâs usage of existing products, and that can go a long way in solving their problem(s). For instance, clothing has been in existence for a very long time but people would put on their clothes not pressed. Along the way, someone discovered an instrument to be used for pressing the clothes to remove wrinkles and improve the outlook. This actually changed the way people dress, at least from rough to neat and smart.
The instrument called pressing iron still exists, but something impressive has happened to it. The first one that was produced was not an electric pressing iron, it was a mere iron in the shape of the present iron which was placed on fire or hot coals and then placed on the clothing for pressing. The iron had a lot of demerits as it would stain the clothes and quite often would burn them because of the heat which could not be easily controlled.
Later on, another person discovered that a better iron could be produced â that was what gave birth to a coal pressing iron. This pressing iron worked with burning coals stacked in it to supply the heat needed for pressing. Charcoal pressing iron was also faulty because the ashes from the coal stained the clothing and the heat also could not be effectively controlled.
After a lot of thinking, someone found out that a better iron with effective controlling device could be produced. Finally, an electric pressing iron was created! Now, a pressing iron can be used with electricity as its source of heat and a regulator with which the heat can be controlled effectively.
