I didn’t even know what paneer was until I was 35 years old. And I still have absolutely no idea what spanakopita is. Yet there she is at nursery appreciating food like she’s Tom Kerridge judging the Great British Menu, before heading home to refuse jam on her toast as it is a bit out there. I have a terrible feeling that pizza was a power play after all.

On the other side of the coin, after the hell of tongue tie it turns out my son is an incredible eater: put it in front of him and he will attempt to get it down his throat. Well, this will be much easier, we thought, as he ate his 16th grape of the day, but as with everything in my life, it turns out this brings its own problems. I always presumed it was a myth that babies wanted to put everything in their mouths. Turns out my daughter was just being picky – she was rejecting putting a marble in her mouth in the same way she didn’t want to eat plums. But my son, well, he won’t just eat peas or bolognese but leave him unattended in a room for more than ten seconds and he is eating a plug, a passport or the cat. Careful what you wish for.
