"Hi! My name is Jessica Wakefield. I'm your Tofu-Glo girl."

"Hello. I'm your Tofu-Glo girl, Jessica Wakefield."

Jessica gave her reflection her most winning smile and tried again.

"Hello! I'd like to talk to you about Tofu-Glo. I think you'll love it."

The blue-green eyes meeting hers smiled back. "Oh, won't you come in? I'm very interested."

She giggled at her own silliness and gave herself one last critical survey in the mirror. That afternoon she was going to start selling Tofu-Glo around the neighborhood, and her spirits were high.

She hummed a little as she left the bathroom. That party two days before had been incredible. Not in her wildest dreams had she expected to sell so much to her friends. At least a third of the boxes were empty.

On the threshold of her room she paused. There was that odor again, she thought. She had smelled it earlier in the day. I hope Prince Albert didn't hide something in my room, she thought, wrinkling her nose. She strode to the window to let in some fresh air. I'll look around later, she decided.

She regarded the stack of cartons in the corner. How much should she take? She couldn't very well drag a bunch of boxes around town, but she had her car, so at least she didn't have to go on foot."

"I'll take one box of each," she said out loud. "And when I run out, I'll just take orders." With that optimistic plan, Jessica proceeded to carry one box each of Tofu-Shampu, Tofu-Clean, Soya-Soft, and Soya-Life down to the red convertible.

Soon she was spinning along the quiet suburban streets of Sweet Valley. She had already decided to start with people who didn't know her. After all, she wanted people to buy her products because she was a good salesperson, not because they knew who she was.

She pulled into a street, Moonglow Terrace. That seemed like a good omen, having "glow" in the name. That was where she would start. She pulled the Fiat to the curb at the first house and grabbed her canvas bag with a sample of each product.

"Here goes," she whispered, squaring her shoulders and fixing a big smile on her face.

"Hi! My name is Jessica Wakefield, and I'm your Tofu-Glo girl," she chirped to the pleasant, middle-aged woman who answered the door. "Can I show you some of our health and beauty products today?"

"Well . . ." The woman smiled uncertainly and glanced over her shoulder into the house.

"It'll only take a few moments, ma'am. I'm sure you'll be very interested." Jessica smiled harder, her eyes bright.

Finally the woman nodded her head and smiled back. "All right, dear. Come on in."

"This is a lovely house," Jessica remembered to say. "My mom couldn't have done a better job, and she's an interior designer."

The woman stopped and turned around with a surprised smile on her lips. "Did you say your name is Wakefield?"

"Yes."

"Well, what a coincidence." She laughed. "Your mother did do my house! She's Alice Wakefield, right?"

Jessica couldn't believe her luck.
