Gideon looked up and said, ‘Who? What?’ and various other surprised things.

‘Don’t be afraid,’ said the angel. ‘I won’t hurt you.’

They had a long talk. Gideon asked the angel why “God was making things so difficult if he was really with them. ‘There’s the Midianites,’ he said, ‘they’re being horrible to us, and I’m a bit worried about those Amalekites.’

The angel told Gideon to lead his people into battle, and said that he was bound to win.

Gideon went out the next day and got all his people together. They really go those baddies on the run.

God was so pleased that he made sure everything went well for the Israelites for the next forty years.

But, you’ve guessed it. The children of Israel soon upset God again.
