TWENTY-THREE

COLE

I was pissed.

Rosalie and Fox hadn’t called. No texts. Hadn’t answered their phones. I was nearly ready to board a plane and pound on their hotel door to see what the fuck they were doing and then spank both their asses raw.

Our men trailing them said nothing was amiss, but fuck. When someone doesn’t answer twenty fucking missed phone calls, a guy begins to wonder.

Rosalie’s soft voice came on the line, and a breath of relief rushed out of me.

“What the fuck, Rosebud? Why weren’t you guys answering? I was ready to fucking send a search party to make sure you were OK.”

“Sorry,” she said softly.

Something was wrong.

“Tell me what happened,” I demanded, sinking into the cushions of the couch in the home office. Enzo came into the room, E trailing behind him.

“Nothing. I’m just tired.”

“Liar,” I murmured. “Don’t lie to me, Rosebud.”

“I really am tired. It’s been a long day.”

I had her on speaker, so the guys could hear her too.

“How was the ceremony?” Enzo called out, sitting forward in his seat.

We hadn’t looked to see if the winner was announced. We wanted to hear it from them first.

“It was good. Lots of people and cameras. We stayed through the entire thing. I met a girl named Violet. She was really great. We exchanged numbers.”

“Did it just end? It’s late.” I looked at my watch and frowned.

“No.”

I looked at the guys. E didn’t seem concerned, but everything about the way Enzo’s eyes were narrowed at the phone I’d placed on the coffee table said he was.

“Sunshine, where’s Fox?”

“Oh. He’s not here right now—”

“What the fuck do you mean he’s not there right now?” I demanded, getting to my feet. I really was going to board a plane tonight. Not being near them was driving me insane. We never separated like this. I was going to lose my mind.

I reached down and grabbed the phone before she could answer. “I’m video calling you. Answer it.”

I hung up and did a video call, my pulse thundering in my ears.

Where the fuck was Fox? Why was he leaving her alone in a giant city where she wasn’t going to be safe?

“Relax,” E murmured. “I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation. Fox is responsible and is probably getting them snacks or something. Let her speak and don’t blow up at her.”

I ground my teeth as I waited for her to answer.

A moment later, her pretty face graced the screen.

“Where’s Fox?” I sank down onto my spot on the couch and held the phone in front of me so I could see her. Enzo rose and moved to sit beside me, E moving to stand behind me.

Fuck, she’s beautiful.

Focus, ass munch.

“He’s with Kurt down the hall. Kurt wanted to talk to him tonight. It seemed important.”

I blew out a breath, letting the tension leave my shoulders.

“You look beautiful, sweetheart,” E called out. “I miss you.”

“I miss you too,” she said, giving us her sweet smile. Her green eyes weren’t as sparkly as they usually were. Maybe she really was tired.
