“Wait,” I say, putting a hand on her shoulder as she tries to push past me.

“Vince, I can’t. I have to get home. My…my boyfriend is there, waiting for me.”

Bullshit! I think, but don’t say it. Instead the smile on my face fades to a frown. She struggles a bit at me grasping her shoulder. I let go and she moves past me, not saying another word. I’m dumbfounded at what’s just happened. I thought we were going to fuck. And boyfriend? Since when does she have a boyfriend? I was sure that was all bullshit! What in the hell is going on around here?

I look around the bar after a few dazed moments, see my coworkers at a nearby table, laughing at the game, pointing around at various acquaintances from other firms.
