Chapter 15

Layla

“Yep. Sup, Doggy.” Layla almost laughed at the look on Odin’s face. She was damn glad the supposed secret was finally out in the open. It had been hard as hell to keep quiet about what she knew. She’d already known about shifters since Romi had gone on her first appointment with the new unit. When her friend came home the first time, it took a full bottle of whiskey and a marathon of their favorite murder-death-kill shows to get the full story out of her.

And whoa boy, was it a fucking doozy. The world was much bigger than Layla knew. Romi had given her a crash course in the supernatural, and Layla’s mind almost exploded from everything she’d been told. Then a few years later, when Christopher was born, and his gifts began to manifest, Romi was the first person Layla contacted. She may not have anything special about her, but her son was extraordinary.

“You know you need to give me more than that. So, all this time, you’ve known what I am?”

Shrugging, she smiled up at Odin. “I knew it in theory. Plus, I saw your eyes change. I was hoping you’d tell me yourself before my son started riding you like a horse.”

Shaking his head, Odin gave a short laugh. “And here I was, worried about how you’d respond to me when I told you the truth.”

Layla shrugged. “I didn’t mean to worry you, but I didn’t feel it was right for me to out you before you were ready to share.”

“You played me,” he said in a low voice, but there was no real bite to it.

She shook her head, a smile hovering over her lips. “No. I was simply cautious. Just as you were. Now that everything’s out in the open, where do we go from here?”

Odin looked toward the back hallway and smiled. “How much longer until little man wakes up?”

“Hmmm, maybe another forty-five minutes or so. Why do you ask?” She teased, running her fingers through his silky hair. She still needed to ask him about this whole ‘mate’ thing he kept going on about, but that could wait until they had a little fun. Her body’s been in overheat mode for the past few days. Momma needed a little playtime.

He quickly picked her up and made his way down the hallway, entering a bedroom situated off to the side. “Just enough time for me to finally get a taste.” Adjusting his arms, he slid her down his body until her feet reached the floor. She could feel every single inch of him, especially the part of him making himself known under his jeans. “Do you know much I’ve wanted to have you in my arms this way? To have the freedom to touch you. Kiss you? Make love to you?”

“I’ve felt the same way,” she admitted. Standing with her body flush against his, she wanted all of him, and then some.

“Let me help you get undressed,” he whispered in her ear. Unbuttoning her jeans, he pulled down the zipper and began to remove the material from her body.
