The fire continues to blaze,

consuming all fuel

until all karma is finished.

Then, one offers one’s Self entirely.

How long the process takes

depends on the urgency of our necessity.

Is one detoured by offenses,

becoming cold, or does one make the fire blaze?

The fire is kept alive

by pure hearing of scripture

and chanting of the holy name,

by humbly serving Guru and Krishna.

Both grace and effort are required.

We endeavor our best,

yet we humbly acknowledge

mercy is always in the background.
