Lewis and Clark Festival

For 25 years, Great Falls has been celebrating the Corps of Discovery’s 1806 monthlong stay in the city. The Lewis and Clark Festival (event venues vary, many held at Gibson Park on the River’s Edge Trail, 406/791-7732, www.lewisandclarkfoundation.org) takes place each year, usually in mid-June. For a full weekend, history comes alive in various locations around the city. Highlighting events from Lewis and Clark’s experience in Great Falls, the festival is as much about education as it is about fun. There are children’s activities such as a discovery camp and storytelling, float trips, tours of Lewis and Clark sites, and presentations by Native American groups. Actors help re-create daily life from this period with dramatic readings and plays, and there is a traditional arts and crafts show, concerts, food, nature outings, and exhibits.
