Bright sunlight shone through the curtains, casting shadows through the patterns of the fabric. Sorcha lay in Frederick’s embrace, listening to his gentle snore. She squirmed in his hold and then sighed as his hand on her hip moved up and down over her side, hip and leg.
“No need to be so restless this morning, Sorcha.” His body shook as he stretched behind her, and then he relaxed into her again. “We can stay abed all day if we choose.”
“We can no’!” she exclaimed, turning over with such haste she elbowed him in his belly, provoking a grunt. “What would they think?”
“They already know what we did all night long,” he teased, running a hand over her brow and into her disheveled hair. “I think they’d be disappointed if we make too early an appearance.” His grin faded as she belted him on his shoulder. “Why are you so upset?”
“I dinna like gossip. I dinna like the men talkin’ about us in such a way.”
He sighed and met her embarrassed gaze. “Love, it’s a fact of life that everyone knows what we did last night. There’s no reason to feel ashamed.” He grabbed her fingers and kissed them.
“Will yer men always gossip about me? About us?”
He nodded. “Yes, as we will about them. And they are your men now too. When you need something done, you have every right to ask them for help. There may be times when we are too busy on the ranch to help you at that moment, but they will always aid you, as I will.”
She furrowed her brows as she stared at him.
He paused and then took a long breath. “Do you regret last night?”
Her eyes widened, and she pushed herself toward him, toppling him backward until she had crawled over him and straddled him. “Nae!” She kissed him and ran her hands through his black hair. She broke away only to kiss his whisker-roughened cheeks and neck. “Never.” She flushed crimson. “I never kent I could feel like that.”
He smiled as he caressed her back. “It will only get better. The longer we know each other.” He kissed her chin. “Trust each other.” A kiss to her shoulder. “Love each other.” He paused and then kissed her other shoulder. “It will only get better.”
“Love me again,” she whispered.
“As long as you love me too,” he gasped, losing himself to her touch and passion.
