Findings
The findings section is intended to be a summary of the most important âfactsâ that emerged from the discussion. I have found that the most effective way to organize this section is to use the order of information outlined in the moderator guide. Although every point in the guide will not be reflected in the findings section, and although normally some topics will be included that are not in the guide, this is a logical way to set up the section if it can be assumed that the guide was well designed at the outset.
We have also found that the actual writing of this section is most effective when one topic is handled on a page at a time, in a format of first a headline idea that represents the key observation about the particular topic area and then subpoints on the same page that add substance to the main point that has been developed. Although this format results in a report that is often longer (in terms of pages) than a traditional approach, it has been our experience that clients find this a useful way to receive the information, as it is easy to read, understand, and digest the material from the groups.
