Day Five: A Needle in a Haystack

Turning to sit on the edge of the desk, Serghei leaned back, his thick arms crossed over an equally thick chest. “Now would you like to explain why you were making such an uproar in my club?” He waited patiently as the woman ran her hands down her shirt smoothing it back in place after Jerick’s ministrations.

Flopping down in the chair across from him, the woman leaned forward, turning briefly to glare at Jerick. “My friend was here the other night. We just finished school and it was to be our final get out of Louisiana party. Well, I show up and they tell me she has already picked up her ticket. I spent the rest of the night looking for her. She just disappeared. This was the last place she had been seen before her disappearance. And mind you, I have looked everywhere. So, one of you better tell me what happened to my friend before I go ballistic in this place.”

Serghei stared in utter disbelief at the woman who sat before him, her chin lifted, meeting his gaze straight on. He had to admit he was momentarily speechless in his surprise.

Glancing over at Jerick, his tone irascibly patient. “Locate the tapes from...” He asked looking at the woman who had Jerick’s undivided attention. A first in a long time.

“Last Friday night,” she whispered suddenly taking in her surroundings.

“You heard the woman.”

Jerick turned and stalked over to the glass paneled wall across the room. Within minutes he had returned with a gold disc in his hand. Walking over to Serghei, he handed him the disc and returned to his previous position beside the woman.

“What is your name?” Serghei asked softly as he sat down in his chair and slipped the disc into the drive.

“Tina,” she answered quietly. “She is my only friend in the world. I have to find her.”

Serghei grunted. He knew the feeling, having experienced it when Ivan had disappeared for a week and they had nearly torn the streets of New Orleans apart searching for him. They had destroyed the Hunters who had captured and tortured him. In front of him the scene on the dance floor came into focus as Andre, his bouncer unlocked the doors to Club Blood.

“Come,” Serghei ordered, turning the screen toward her. “Which is your friend?” He waited patiently as the woman scanned the large rectangular screen of the computer.

“There... there.” She pointed at a woman with loose spiral curls of the deepest chocolate. Next to her was a man Serghei had seen previously in the club.

His name was Robert and his friend, Mike, had been escorted to the door several times. Serghei stared intently at the scene playing out in front of them. The female was on the dance floor with Robert and Mike was at the bar where he had previously seen the woman pick up a drink. Serghei’s eyes moved from the couple back to the bar, noting that Mike dropped something in the woman’s drink before stirring it with the thin straw.
