TRINITY

Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! The Muslim cry repeated ad nauseam ad infinitum is now imprinted on the collective consciousness of humanity. It was the cry of the fanatical Muslim killer in Orlando who killed forty-nine people and injured fifty-three others on June 12, 2016, in the worst mass shooting in United States history,109 just as it was the cry of chief hijacker Muhammad Atta on 9/11.110 Indeed, it is the cry on the lips of every fervent Islamic believer.

And while media pundits seek to convince the gullible that “Allahu Akbar” means “God is great” (Allahu kabir), in actuality Allahu Akbar means Allah is greater—greater than all that is, including greater than the Christian God.111 In truth, however, Allah cannot be great, much less greater than God, for at least three reasons. To begin with, the greatest of all gods would not misapprehend the Trinity. Second, he would not offer Islamic jihadists a paradise of idyllic joys as a reward for immoral jihad.112 Third, the unitarian Allah of Islam, by definition, lacks the moral perfection of love and, thus, on the basis of logic, is morally defective.113

This is so because for God to be a perfect being, he must of necessity also be a loving being (1 John 4:8). This implies that there is someone to love. But there has not always been someone to love, because in accordance with modern cosmology,114 the universe and the persons that inhabit it came into being a finite time ago.115 Thus, independent of creation, the unitarian Allah would not have had an object on which to lavish love.116

While moral imperfections apply to the unitarian Allah, they do not likewise apply to the trinitarian God. Why? Because though the biblical God is a single being, there are subject-object distinctions within the Godhead. And the three centers of consciousness within the one true God have loved one another from all eternity.117 Said C. S. Lewis:

All sorts of people are fond of repeating the Christian statement that “God is love.” But they seem not to notice that the words “God is love” have no real meaning unless God contains at least two Persons. Love is something that one person has for another person. If God was a single person, then before the world was made, He was not love.118

Additionally, Christian philosopher William Lane Craig stated:

On the Islamic view of God, God is a person who does not give himself away essentially in love for another. He is focused essentially only on himself. He cannot therefore be the most perfect being. But on the Christian view, God is a triad of persons in eternal self-giving love relationships. Thus, since God is essentially loving, the doctrine of the Trinity is more plausible than any unitarian concept of God such as Islam.119

The Allah of the Qur’an not only is morally imperfect but also, as previously noted, completely misapprehends trinitarian theology. Not only does Allah suppose the biblical God to be “the third of three,” he supposes Mary to be the third person of the Triad.
