Caleb was disappointed, but there was no getting around it. If he was going to play bottom, he damn well wanted lube and lots of it. But he also planned on convincing Ryan that fair was fair, and that the bull shifter could play bottom as well. Caleb tossed off his robe and decided to take a quick shower. He hadn’t last night, and he knew he still had sweat and the smells from the day before clinging to his skin. He scrubbed hard and paid special attention to his ass and dick. He kept stroking himself to keep his erection going. Ryan shouldn’t be too long. How hard was it to buy some lube?

Excitement bubbled in his stomach, and he brushed his teeth for good measure. But as he was brushing, he realized he should have told Ryan to get some condoms as well. Did he have any? Did they really need any?

He walked into the bedroom and rifled through his bags and pockets and only found one condom, and he couldn’t tell how old it was. He hoped they didn’t need them. He’d hate to send Ryan out again to get some more.

Sitting on the bed, he could see the front door from that angle and contemplated about what they were about to do. What would happen after? He tried not to think about it, scared that it would ruin everything, but his mind wouldn’t quiet. Should he tell his mother? And was it time for Whirlwind to retire? Whirlwind was eight years old, after all. Although some bulls bucked past the age of ten, did Whirlwind still want to?

He scrubbed his hands over his face. He wanted a relationship with Ryan. A real, public relationship. He wanted to walk hand in hand down the sidewalk with him. He wanted to run the ranch with Ryan after his mother passed away. He wanted a life with Ryan, not a half life.

An incident years before had outed him to the crew. While a few quit, the majority teased him at first before shrugging it off. Thankfully they hadn’t employed many assholes to begin with. Other stock contractors and those in the trade were a different kettle. Though whatever they said couldn’t change the fact that Whirlwind was the best of the best, and they were forced to deal with Caleb when it came to the bull. So gaining a man life partner wouldn’t be a shock to anyone.

Sighing, he fell back on the bed and stared at the ceiling. All that thinking had made him lose his erection. They would have to go home after this. And what then? What did Ryan want?

Someone abruptly pounded on the door, and he jumped in surprise.

“I forgot my key,” Ryan’s muffled voice said. “Open up, Caleb.”

He walked over and opened the door. Ryan stepped in with a large grin on his face and held up a bottle of lube. A very large bottle.

“Do you really expect us to use all that?” Caleb asked, unable to contain his laugh.
