Chapter 26
Beau stretched his arms as he awoke. Once he fell asleep, apparently he had rolled over so he was facing away from May, but he could feel her small body pressed up against his back. He turned over and pulled her against him, then tugged the plush comforter up over the two of them tightly. He could tell by her breathing that she was awake.
âGood morning,â he said, kissing the top of her head.
May sighed. âMorning to you, mate.â She wiggled out of his hold and rolled over so she was on her other side facing him. âThat was the best sleep Iâve had in a long time.â She grinned sheepishly at him.
âI was just thinking the same thing. Weâll have to do lots more of that so you continue to sleep well,â he said, returning her smile.
âGood sleep is necessary for good health, isnât it?â She blinked in the near darkness and looked around the room. âI know shifters see well in the dark, but does it ever get weird having your bedroom below ground, you know, not having the sunlight to wake you up?â
He gestured to the table next to his side of the bed. âNo, I have one of those lamps that you can set to wake you up as if sun was rising. I forgot to set it last night, though. I was distracted by someone. If it really bothers you, we can sleep in the guest room upstairs. We can turn it into a master bedroom.â
She yawned and shook her head. âNah, I know you bears like your dens. I think I can live with it. You just have to make sure to get me good and tired every night.â
He chuckled. âYou sore?â
âA tiny bit, but Iâll live. What time is it anyway? Should we get up?â
He sighed and turned over to grab his cellphone off the bedside table. âEight-thirty. Bradyâs manning the store so I donât have anywhere to be. If we didnât have to worry about people trying to hurt you, Iâd say we could stay in bed all day. I think we have to figure this out and get you out of danger, the sooner the better.â
âShower first?â she asked.
âSexy two-person shower or lonely single-person shower?â he asked.
She leaned in and gave him a chaste kiss on his lips. âThe first, of course.â
A short time later, Beau left May to get changed and telephone her mother while he went to see about making his mate, and sisters if they were awake, breakfast. He smiled as he climbed the steps to the main floor, thinking about last night and this morning. They, indeed, had experienced a couples shower that involved them cleaning each other thoroughly. He then introduced May to a different sexual position as he plunged into her from behind while she braced herself against the shower wall. Her moans and screams of pleasure seemed to indicate she was a fan of this favorite of his. He was a lucky bastard.
As he reached the top of the stairs, he was struck by a sense of panic.
