It was but glamour, empty gloss,
we went our separate ways,
and those who once were kind to us
now wear a different face â
Passed on and dead are those bright eyes
which used to glow and glint â
as far away from me as stars
sunk in infinity.
And gone and dead are gentle words
which used to bring me cheer,
as far away as blows the wind
that breaks upon the sea,
