Rituals and the magic that takes place in a magic circle can be exhausting. That is why I feel that any ending activities should be simple and lighthearted. If you choose to end a magic circle with any type of activity, all participants should be allowed to cool down and relax. In some ways, closing activities for a magic circle might be more important than greeting activities. The reason I say this is because, as magic is created during a ritual, many group members may enter an altered state of awareness. An activity at the closing of a magic circle will prepare everyone for getting back to the everyday physical realm. But in some cases, there will be times when you may want to close and clear your magical space first, then have an activity planned for the social time after your circle.

Here are a few ending activities for you to consider.

Roses and Thorns

This activity will allow everyone to share something that made them smile and something that may have ticked them off. Whatever group members share, it should be something that happened that day or that week. Begin by going around the circle and having each person share their “rose” story. Encourage questions and comments: “Why did you enjoy this?” and so on. Next, let everyone share a “thorn” story about something that has peeved them. And again, let others make comments and suggestions as to how the problem could be resolved or avoided, magically or mundanely.
