It’s All in the Soul-Plumbing

I like to share this story about Asmar, a longtime friend with whom I shared soul adventures. The way Asmar shared his gifts and skills in the world was through his profession as a plumber.

Asmar once shared with me that the first thing he did when arriving at a client’s home was to go under the house and meditate. Once in the meditative state, he began a conversation with the pipes, inviting them to tell him their story. Attuned to their communication, he intuited the plumbing problem and informed the client of the work to be done. However, he went beyond the call of duty, doing his job out of creative delight and love, and without charging the client for any extra work “communicated” after he had submitted his initial price. Before leaving a client’s home, he blessed all those who lived in it, along with the house itself.

Within weeks of this writing about Asmar, he made his transition into a new dimension of life. Although I will miss him, I rejoice at how he lived his love of God and others full out, how he held back nothing in his givingness. He shall always be for me an example of the intuitive communication process practiced during Life Visioning, whether it involves livelihood, relationships, spiritual practice—again, all of our life structures. This is the crux of what it means to be a spiritual being having a human incarnation: to discover, accept, and express our inheritance of oneness with Source and channel its essence of excellence as we deliver our gifts, talents, and skills in the world. We cannot accomplish this simply by willing it to be so. Only by surrendering the ego’s false sense of control and engaging in spiritual practice can we open ourselves to the full expression of Channel Consciousness.
