“A tie? That's impossible.” I skimmed the sheet with the tally marks. They lined up evenly, row for row, mark for mark. How had I spent the last hour kissing anything with a pulse only to end up tied with Nora?

My chest tightened. I'd also had to watch her kiss dozens of guys, including a few of my own brothers who I knew for a fact wouldn't mind getting to know her much better.

“The proof's right here.” Devin pointed at the totals at the bottom of the page. He'd come back just in time to witness my humiliating finish.

“I can't believe it.” I thought I'd had this victory in the bag. Though that was before Nora showed up looking amazing, smelling delicious, and acting very un-Nora-like.

Devin leaned in. “If you planted one on her, you'd win.”

Hope bubbled up in my gut. “You think so?”

My brother shrugged. “I don't know why not.”

I nodded, eager enough to capture the win that I closed the distance between us. “Hey, Nora?”

She lifted her head, her blue eyes evaluating me with wariness. “Yes?”

“What do you say we call a truce?”

“Not so fast.” Megan stepped in front of Nora, blocking my access. “Your challenge was to get more kisses during your shift. In case you haven't noticed, your shift is over, Romeo.”

I glanced over to where the mayor had taken a spot behind the counter. The winter princess I'd kissed earlier stood next to him. No doubt the two of them would generate more donations during their shift than Nora and I put together.

“Then I guess we end in a tie.” Nora peeked around Megan and offered her hand. “All's fair in kissing for charity, I guess.”

Before I let myself think about it, I slid my hand into hers. Her skin was soft. The curve of her grip pressed against my palm. A shiver ran up my arm and down my spine at the contact.

Dammit. It was time for bad feelings between us to be put in the past. I was about to suggest that... about to ask her if she'd like to grab a glass of champagne to celebrate the new year... when Devin stepped up next to me.

“You can always take the competition to the gala tonight. We can let people know that Reid and Nora will dance for charity and see who can raise the most money.” Devin crossed his arms over his massive chest. “What do y'all think about that?”

“I'd say you're on.” Megan thrust her hand toward my brother. The two of them shook on it while Nora and I looked on.

“I guess this isn't over yet,” Nora said, her voice not much louder than a whisper.

Her hand still rested in mine, small and fragile. I wanted to protect her, to shield her from carrying the contest any further. “We don't have to—”

“Are you willing to concede victory then?” Megan asked, her eyes lit up with some fire from within.

“Hell no, he's not.” Devin straightened his spine, rising to his full height.
