After the sun finally set, I watched as Cecilia walked up the stairs to the loft, disappearing a second before her footsteps tapped on the floor. With each passing tick of the clock, I told myself all the reasons not to follow her.
She was too good for me.
Iâd fucked up too many lives to risk doing the same to hers.
Iâd be dead soon.
My chin dropped to my chest as I exerted every ounce of self-discipline.
There were too many things happening and too many unknowns to complicate this situation further. What happened outside on the deck was wrong and undoubtedly the best fucking thing to happen to me in years. In a dangerous world of death and destruction, I had the honor of watching a princess come apart. Cecilia didnât like the term and I understood why. Nevertheless, she was American royalty and today, sheâd found release in the most stunning of displays. It was fucking better than anything Iâd ever seen.
Maybe what I experienced was a taste of what life could be for people who didnât constantly think about themselves. Iâd spent so long working to secure New Orleans for my realm, and then working to stay alive and making something of myself, Iâd forgotten what it was like to give.
âI know what Iâm doing.â
Her voice reverberated in my thoughts.
She didnât know.
There was no way CeciliaâCiciâknew what it meant to awaken needs Iâd suppressed for too long. And then again, never, as in ever, had I done what I just had. Of course Iâd given sexual pleasure, but almost always with the understanding of reciprocation. Today, my pleasure hadnât come physically. Hell no. I was uncomfortablyâpainfullyâhard throughout our dinner and beyond. And yet I was pleasured, in a different way. Having Ceciliaâs body in my grasp was as close to heaven as I will ever get. Feeling her soft curves writhe and tremble was indescribable. And watching her stunningly round eyes simmer like melted chocolate as she worked to achieve her release was a gift. The crème de la crème was as she came. Everything about her was focused on that goal. Open, honest, and trusting, she opened herself to me.
Even without feeling the amazing tremors within her, I was a part of her pleasure.
Those minutes with the animals rustling the underbrush and the trees swaying in the wind with Cecilia in my grasp would be my light as darkness came for the last time. It was one of the few memories Iâd treasure as I entered the gates of hell.
Without the ability to access Dellinger security, I was at a dead end. Iâd spent the better part of the day trying to convince myself that I was wrong about Tiller, but I couldnât find convincing evidence one way or the other. My gut told me I was right. The question that remained unanswered was why Tiller wanted Cecilia.
Maybe I didnât want to give that the necessary thought process.
Would he hurt her?
Would he give her to Jethro?
Was she the glue in some underworld deal that she didnât know existed?
I needed another burner phone.
