~LASHAYA~

I walked into the waiting area and sat the bag of donuts along with the tray of coffee in the seat next to me. This was going to be a long night, I could already feel it. I wasn't in the mood to beef with Trina, especially not while she and Tyrone were going through something so emotional with their son. Sure I was the stepmother and my heart worried about Lil Rone too, but my line to him wasn't as direct as Ty's and Trina's, so I tried to stay in my place. But Trina had me all the way fucked up if she thought I'd be catchin' shade from her ass all night, or however long we were going to be here at the hospital. It was crazy because Trina and I've known each other since middle school. We both went to Key, then we both went to Suitland. We weren't friends, but we knew each other. She was very popular and on the pom squad. I was semi popular and on the varsity cheerleader squad. She used to go with our basketball star and I used to go with Trey, our defensive tackle. We had different taste in men, so how did we both end up with Tyrone is beyond me.

Tyrone told me that he met her downtown DC, at a food truck in front of one of them museums she was working in. I met him three years later in my senior year of college. He was with a construction crew, who were working on an extension of one of the buildings at my school. I was on my way to watch my girl Tonya be inducted into the sorority, when Ty stopped me to talk. We ended up talking so long that I missed her ceremony. Tonya stopped talking to me tough after that, saying that she was so busy with her Sorors that she didn't have time to hang with me. It didn't matter, because after that, Ty and I became inseparable and pretty much have been every since.

I shook the those thoughts away and turned my attention to my cell. It seemed that I be sitting in this waiting room for quite some time, so I might as well find a way to entertain myself. I hated these times where I am left to feel awkward, but I chose this life the moment I said I'd be his wife. So there I was, sitting in the waiting room, feeling ostracized, enduring the worse of for 'better or for worse.'

CHAPTER 8

~TYRONE~

“Please explain her significance for being here. I mean really.” Trina asked as she marched down the hall, pushing buttons to open the automatic doors for us, as we made our way.

“For one she's my wife, which makes her his stepmother.” I answered growing more and more annoyed by the second.

“Well I am his mother, and I am plenty capable of fulfilling my duties. I don't need a substitute shadowing me.” She declared as we approached the curtain that sectioned off lil Ty's space.
