Mljet

Mljet is a beautiful island to the northwest of Dubrovnik. It makes a delightful day out from the city, but there is accommodation if you want to stay longer.

Points to note: The catamaran Nona Ana leaves Gruž harbour and takes about 90 minutes to reach Polače. Tickets can’t be bought in advance, so during high season it’s best to be at the ferry port an hour before sailing. Tickets are available at the small white kiosk across the road from the Jadrolinija ferry office. If you’re spending just one day on Mljet, make sure you get off at the second port, Polače, not at Sobra on the eastern end of the island. Take swimming gear and a picnic if you don’t want to eat at one of the restaurants. Several agencies run excursions to Mljet for an all-in price, with a guide, and you may prefer to do it that way, but getting there under your own steam is not difficult.
