“What have you got for me?” The Chairman asked his executive secretary.

“Sir, there are the usual approvals for prey pickup in your queue for next quarter’s auction. There’s no rush on them. However, there is one you might be interested in, Henrietta, if you would care to meet her.”

“Really, I’ll look at her, but if you’re already up for this one, I’m likely to agree. Is there anything else?”

“Yes, Sir. The executive committee members are all here and ready to meet in the executive boardroom. Shall I tell them to get ready?”

“Oh, by all means. I have something important to discuss with them.”

“Anything else?” The Chairman asked.

“Sir, no doubt you know that some of our members are still not happy with your property becoming a member.”

“Yes, I am aware. I will also remind the membership that there is precedence for this over the lifetime of the Consortium. Not all of those who join us come completely from the outside. We are very particular and very careful about who we offer membership. Avril will be a fine addition to our ranks, even as older members pass on and leave us.”

“Let them. I’ll win it handily.”

“Yes, Sir. I agree, but you pay me to anticipate these events and deal with them accordingly.”

“Is there anything you need me to approve in handling the discontentment?”

“No, Sir. Should I need to, I will alert you and ask for guidance.”

“Good enough, my man. Pour a couple of scotches and sit down. Let’s get caught up.”

“Thank you, Sir. I would like that.”

An hour later, the Chairman walked into the Executive Conference Room, instantly changing the room’s atmosphere from one of lightheartedness to one whose authority was unquestioned.

Even before he sat down, the Chairman announced, “I call this meeting to order.”

After taking care of the normal crap, the Chairman brought up a new subject, which got everyone’s attention in short order.

“You know that I have always had the best interests of this committee and the Consortium at heart. Yet, recently, one of our members, and a close one to me, perpetrated an assault on me and my property that needs addressing. This individual, whom I will not name, you know who you are, was recently a guest in my home for dinner and a little post-dinner entertainment. The dinner party broke up early when this guest abused my hospitality and attempted to kill one from my stable even as he fucked her. All in front of my dinner guests. His inappropriate behavior insulted me, my hospitality, and my guests.”

The anger in his tone kept everyone quiet and demure. After a long pause, the Chairman continued.

“I do not take this insult lightly. I am raising a grievance against this member, and I call upon this committee to sanction this member. Mind you, I could handle
