Chapter 7

Greg tapped the screen on his lap. “Looking at population dynamics, I think our Santa is going to deliver to Lanai this year.”

“Oh?” Paula answered sounding just a little distracted. Her distraction came from two sources. She was scanning through emails, reading and responding to the locals they had contacted. They had scratched every source they could find, looking for anyone willing to talk to them about radar, pointing a telescope up at the sky or watching out for any unusual sightings popping up on social media when Christmas Eve came.

The second reason for her distraction came from Katya. Paula was stretched out, nude and stomach down on their hotel bed. Her legs were spread, allowing Katya to have nuzzled her way between them. Her face was tucked into Paula’s core, entertaining herself by running her tongue up and down the other woman’s slit.

Every now and then, Greg looked up from his own work to let the erotic image fill his eyes. Behind them, he could see the waving palm trees on a hill side and the ocean beyond. It was the first time Katya had ever visited anywhere tropical. Actually, it was the first time she had been away from her home country. When she had slipped in between Paula’s thighs, Greg had pulled out his camera and done what he knew needed to be done… capture the moment.

*Snap*

The women had laughed warmly at his decision, then sighed and went about being sexy as hell. If they kept at it much longer, Greg was sure to be joining them.

The intellectual puzzle of the unknown figure they were chasing helped keep him from descending too quickly into debauchery. Struggling once again to keep focused, he said, “I know, I know. We’ve said that population doesn’t seem to mean much. But there has to be some sort of quality this Santa is looking for. If you go to the same well over and over, you’ll run out of what you want, right? He’s been to Oahu three times now and once to the other two islands. Maybe our Santa is avoiding the big island for a reason. But Lanai is inside the circle scribed by these other ones. Lanai City isn’t massive, but it’s three thousand people who could use a reason to celebrate.”

“But the other islands have more people,” Paula answered softly, her voice drifting a little as she moaned off and on when Katya’s tongue did something particularly inspiring. “What if part of this is to make sure this technology gets out? Those on Lanai might share it among themselves to great joy, but the outside world might never hear of it, either. Even secret beaches around these islands are taken seriously. Maybe they’d stick to themselves with this sort of thing as well.”

“We don’t know Santa’s purpose,” Greg pointed out.

“No, we don’t. But seeing the technology spread hasn’t stopped him, either,” Paula said. “If he saw it as a betrayal that his selections didn’t keep the gifts for themselves, you’d think his pattern would have changed or stopped.
